Why the Brazil shirt is yellow

Five stars above the crest (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002): no national team has won more World Cups. Yet the yellow shirt was not always there. The Seleção played in white until the Maracanazo, the final lost at home in 1950. The yellow shirt with green trim came out of a design contest held shortly afterwards and was worn for the first time in 1954. It has since become the symbol of jogo bonito.

The most sought-after Brazil shirts

• 1998: Ronaldo wearing number 9, and a 3-0 final defeat against France at the Stade de France.
• 2002: the fifth star, in South Korea and Japan. Ronaldo finished as the tournament's top scorer with eight goals, including two in the final against Germany, alongside Rivaldo and Ronaldinho.
• 2006: the Brazil of Ronaldinho, Kaká, Adriano and Ronaldo, knocked out by France in the quarter-finals.
• 2014: the home World Cup, with Neymar wearing number 10. Injured in the quarter-final against Colombia, he missed the 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany.
• 2018: Neymar still in the 10 shirt, and a 2-1 quarter-final loss to Belgium.
